Bhabishyat Credit Card is the West Bengal government’s much-talked-about scheme for small traders and new entrepreneurs — a collateral-free loan of up to ₹5 lakh at roughly 4% effective interest, along with 10% margin money support (up to ₹25,000). The state government itself is the loan guarantor.

Key structure of the scheme

Item Details
Loan limit Up to ₹5 lakh depending on project cost
Collateral None — the state government is the guarantor
Effective interest About 4% (with the state’s interest subsidy)
Margin money 10% of project cost, up to ₹25,000
Who it is for Micro and small enterprises, individual traders, new entrepreneurs

Who can apply?

  • Permanent residents of West Bengal
  • Those running or planning to start a micro/small enterprise — manufacturing, services, trade, food processing, transport, etc.
  • Those with repayment capacity in the bank’s eyes (the business project must be realistic)

Steps to apply

  1. Finalise the project — what you will do, how much investment, income projections; prepare a one-page report
  2. Find an empanelled institution — a cooperative bank/NBFC in your area; the list is on wbmsme.gov.in or at the district MSME office
  3. Submit the form + Aadhaar, PAN, address proof, photograph, business papers (if any)
  4. After verification and project appraisal, the loan is approved — the money is disbursed against project expenses
  5. Repay the EMIs regularly — timely repayment builds a credit history, making bigger loans easier later

Karma Sathi or Bhabishyat Card — which one should you take?

  • Small start-up projects (up to ₹2 lakh), unemployed youth → Karma Sathi Prakalpa (15% subsidy)
  • Larger projects (₹2–5 lakh), expansion of an existing business → Bhabishyat Credit Card (4% interest, higher limit)
  • You cannot take double benefits from both at once — only one per project

❓ Frequently asked questions

How much money can I get under the Bhabishyat Credit Card?

Loans up to ₹5 lakh are available depending on the project cost. Since the state government stands as guarantor, no collateral is required. It also comes with 10% margin money assistance on the project cost (up to ₹25,000) and about 4% effective interest.

Where do I apply for the Bhabishyat Credit Card?

At state government-empanelled cooperative banks, NBFCs and selected banks. Find out which institutions in your area are part of this scheme from the MSME Department's list (wbmsme.gov.in) or the district MSME office.

Is this card actually an ATM/debit card?

No. Although the name 'credit card' is popular, it is actually a loan scheme — the amount is decided according to your project, and the money is deployed directly into business expenses (machinery, stock, shop).
