Read guideFrequently asked questions
What is the best time to visit Darjeeling?
March–May is the flower season and October–December offers the clearest views of Kanchenjunga. Avoid July–August when monsoon rains bring landslide risk on hill roads.
Do I need a permit to visit the Sundarbans?
Yes — entering the Sundarban Tiger Reserve requires a permit from the Forest Department (forest.wb.gov.in). Most boat-package operators include it; if travelling independently, arrange it in advance at the Gosaba/Namkhana forest offices.
How do I avoid tour-package and hotel booking scams?
Three red flags: 100% advance payment, payment to a personal UPI number, and bookings without written confirmation. Never pay an advance without a registered agency’s GST invoice and a detailed hotel/boat voucher; book Holiday Lodges directly on WBTDC and get Sundarban permits from the Forest Department.
Where can I go for a budget weekend from Kolkata?
Digha, Shantiniketan and Bankura (Mukutmanipur–Bishnupur) are all 2–3 hours by train — a full 2-day trip is possible for ₹2,000–5,000 per person. Each guide includes a day-by-day plan and cost table.
