PM Vishwakarma is the central government’s scheme for artisans who have practised their craft by hand for generations — not just a loan: a ₹15,000 toolkit free, training with a stipend, a collateral-free loan of up to ₹3 lakh at 5% effective interest, incentives on digital transactions, and marketing support.

Who can apply?

  • Age 18+
  • Unorganised sector artisans working in one of 18 specified traditional trades — tailor, carpenter, blacksmith, goldsmith, potter, sculptor, barber, gardener, net weaver, leather-tanning worker, cobbler, garland maker, stone carver, toymaker, broom/jute worker, coconut leaf artisan, fan/bamboo-cane artisan, ironsmith
  • Not in government service (and did not hold a government job in the last financial year)
  • No member of the family currently in government service

The five benefits at a glance

Benefit Details
Toolkit e-reward ₹15,000 — one-time, after certification
Training + stipend 5–7 days of basic skilling, ₹500 per day
Enterprise loan Up to ₹3 lakh (₹1 lakh + ₹2 lakh in two tranches), no collateral, effective interest 5%
Digital incentive Incentive of up to ₹1 per digital transaction
Marketing support Online marketplace connections and social media listing

How to apply

  1. Online: open pmvishwakarma.gov.in → ‘Register’ → Aadhaar e-KYC → enter mobile, bank account, trade and experience details
  2. At a CSC: Common Service Centre operators also register artisans — go there if you have trouble online
  3. After registration, trade verification takes place → you receive the Vishwakarma Certificate and ID
  4. Apply for the toolkit e-reward → the voucher is used to buy tools from an approved vendor
  5. After training, apply for the loan — the bank verifies and disburses the first tranche of ₹1 lakh; with good repayment within 18 months, the second tranche of ₹2 lakh

Cautions

  • Registration is completely free — anyone charging a fee is an agent, not the government
  • Name/details must match across Aadhaar, bank and mobile; if they don’t, fix it at an Aadhaar Seva Kendra first
  • Use the loan money in the business itself — spending it on consumption blocks the second tranche
