Top Medical Colleges in Bangladesh for Indian Students 2026: List & Selection Guide
List of top government and private medical colleges in Bangladesh for Indian students, SAARC quota seats, and which colleges are safe to apply to — with a 7-point selection checklist.
Why choosing the college matters so much
In the same country, with the same degree name — the difference between two colleges can be night and day. Clinical exposure (hands-on learning opportunity) depends on the patient volume at the attached hospital, and passing FMGE depends on the quality of teaching and the curriculum. This article does two things: (1) a realistic list of the colleges popular and established among Indian students, and (2) a reusable checklist for evaluating any college.
Top government medical colleges (SAARC quota relevant)
Indian students can apply to these colleges under the SAARC quota — fees are almost the same as for Bangladeshi students, with the total package usually ₹24–35 lakh:
| College | Location | Why it is notable |
|---|---|---|
| Dhaka Medical College (DMC) | Dhaka | The country’s oldest with the largest hospital — highest clinical exposure |
| Sir Salimullah Medical College | Dhaka | Second oldest, established reputation |
| Mymensingh Medical College | Mymensingh | Large attached hospital, comparatively lower cost |
| Chittagong Medical College | Chittagong | Big hospital in the port city |
| Rajshahi Medical College | Rajshahi | Hub of the north, established college |
| Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College | Sylhet | Region convenient to travel to from West Bengal |
Popular private medical colleges
The total package at private colleges is usually ₹35–47 lakh. The ones best known among Indian students:
- Bangladesh Medical College (Dhaka) — one of the older private colleges
- Dhaka National Medical College (Dhaka)
- Uttara Adhunik Medical College (Dhaka)
- Enam Medical College (Dhaka)
- Community Based Medical College (Mymensingh) — an example of an established college in a district town
Note: Private college lists change fast. Don’t decide on the strength of a name on a list — verify with the checklist below.
7 criteria for choosing a college (applicable to any college)
- WDOMS listing — search the college’s name on wdoms.org. If it isn’t there, drop it outright.
- Course duration — minimum 54 months, at the same college (NMC FMGL rule).
- Bed count of the attached hospital — the more patients, the more hands-on learning. 1000+ beds is common at the reputed government colleges.
- English medium — get a written assurance.
- Fee transparency — session-wise fees, paid into the college’s own account. Beware if they claim “everything at once”.
- FMGE track record — ask about the pass experiences of Indian students returned from that college; look for guardian-coordination groups and alumni networks.
- Accommodation and safety — whether the hostel is college-run, and whether there is separate, safe arrangement for female students.
How the SAARC quota application works
The application process runs according to the official notification of Bangladesh’s Ministry of Health and Family Welfare — usually forms are submitted online within a fixed window, along with NEET qualifying proof, Class 10 and 12 marksheets, passport and medical fitness documents. Seats are allotted after the merit list is published. If you hear about buying a “guaranteed seat” from an agent, read our fake consultant checklist — selling “guaranteed seats” is itself a red flag.

❓ Frequently asked questions
Which colleges take Indian students under the SAARC quota?
Reputed government medical colleges of Bangladesh, including Dhaka Medical College, Sir Salimullah Medical College, Mymensingh Medical College, Chittagong Medical College and Rajshahi Medical College, reserve foreign seats under the SAARC quota. Seat numbers and the application process each year are published in the Bangladesh Ministry of Health's notification.
Which is the best college?
Based on long-standing reputation, large attached hospitals and consistent FMGE performance, Dhaka Medical College and Sir Salimullah Medical College are the most desirable. But "best" means the college that fits your budget, your position on the merit list and your accommodation needs.
How do I verify a college's NMC recognition?
NMC does not directly publish a "recognition list" of foreign colleges. The verification criteria: the college is listed in the WHO's WDOMS, approved by its home-country regulator, the course is 54+ months, and students from that college regularly sit FMGE — check all four together.
Is admission to a private college safe?
Many private colleges provide good education, but this is exactly where the risk of fake agents and extra fees is highest. Take admission through the college's own official channels, and pay fees into the college's own account — never into a personal account.
What is the biggest mistake in choosing a college?
Enrolling based only on "cheap" or "not in Dhaka". Patient volume at the attached hospital (clinical exposure), English medium and fee transparency — these three matter more than the price.
