MBBS in Bangladesh 2026: Total Package, Fees & Cost Breakdown — Complete Calculation
What is the total cost of studying MBBS in Bangladesh? A complete breakdown of session-wise fees at government (SAARC quota) and private medical colleges, plus hostel, food and other expenses — updated for 2026.
MBBS in Bangladesh: Why This Country Is West Bengal Students’ First Choice
Every year thousands of West Bengal students go abroad for MBBS, and Bangladesh has always been at the top. The reasons are very clear — the curriculum is almost identical to India’s NMC curriculum, the language (Bengali and English) comes naturally to you, the food and culture are the same, and the FMGE (Foreign Medical Graduate Examination) pass rate of students returning from Bangladesh is the highest compared to other countries. In this article we answer only one question — how much money will MBBS in Bangladesh cost in total in the 2026 session, and where does that money go.
Total Package: At a Glance
As per the published fee structures for the 2025–26 and 2026–27 sessions, the total package stands at:
| College Type | Total Package (entire course) | Remarks |
|---|---|---|
| Government medical college (SAARC quota) | ₹24–35 lakh | Fees almost the same as Bangladeshi students’ — the cheapest |
| Private medical college | ₹35–47 lakh | At some colleges up to $54,000 including hostel |
| Top-tier private (Dhaka/district towns) | ₹40–50 lakh | Depends on merit list and location |
On top of this, annual or monthly living costs (food, transport, personal) of about ₹1.2–2.4 lakh a year have to be added separately. So as a safe swim-through estimate, the total budget over the full 5-year duration can safely be taken to be within ₹28–50 lakh.
Cost Breakdown: Where Does the Money Go?
If a typical government college’s (SAARC quota) fee structure is broken down, you find:
- Admission fee and one-time charges — payable in the first year; at many colleges this includes development fees, library, lab and examination charges.
- Tuition fees (session-wise) — a fixed amount each year; the largest share of the total package. In Bangladesh payment is session-wise, not all at once.
- Hostel and hall fees — included in the package at some colleges, separate at others. Budget ₹60,000–1,20,000 a year.
- Medical insurance, registration, student visa and renewal — comparatively small amounts, but needed every year.
- Tickets and travel — bus/train/air costs on the Kolkata–Dhaka route are relatively low; budget 2–3 trips home a year.
Caution: Beware of advertisements like “complete package ₹22 lakh”. While calculating total costs, always ask — are hostel, exam fees, internship fees and visa renewal inside the package? Don’t believe any claim without it in writing.
SAARC Quota vs Private College: Which to Choose?
SAARC quota advantages: the lowest cost, more patients in government hospitals — meaning more clinical exposure — and most of these colleges are long-established. But seat numbers are small and allotment happens on the merit list, so there is competition.
Private colleges: more seats, a comparatively easier admission process, but higher costs. There is only one job here — before admission, verify the college’s compliance with NMC’s FMGL rules (a 54-month course, English medium, adequate hospital attachment). Read the details in our NMC rules article.
Core Eligibility for Admission
- 50% marks combined in Physics, Chemistry and Biology (PCB) in 10+2 (40% for reserved categories).
- Qualify NEET-UG in the year of admission — NMC’s mandatory condition.
- Age 17 completed by the date of admission.
- The merit list/admission process generally runs per the official notifications of the Bangladesh health ministry and the college authorities — you can apply by contacting the college directly.
Worried About the Cost? Look at Financing
A budget of ₹28–40 lakh is beyond most families as a lump sum — and that’s normal. You can arrange the budget by combining an interest-free loan of up to ₹10 lakh under the West Bengal Student Credit Card with bank/NBFC education loans. How to do it is detailed in our next articles:

❓ Frequently asked questions
What is the total cost of doing MBBS in Bangladesh?
In the 2026 session, admission through the SAARC quota at a government medical college typically brings total course costs to ₹24–35 lakh, and at a private college ₹35–47 lakh (at some colleges more, hostel included). It varies by college.
Is NEET required for MBBS admission in Bangladesh?
Yes. Under NMC rules, qualifying NEET-UG in the year of admission is mandatory for practising medicine in India after an MBBS abroad.
What is the SAARC quota?
Bangladesh's government medical colleges have seats reserved for students from SAARC countries (including India). Under this quota, Indian students' fees are almost the same as Bangladeshi students', making the total cost the lowest.
What are the monthly living costs (food, stay) while doing MBBS?
Monthly living costs in Bangladesh usually fall between ₹10,000–20,000. At many colleges hostel fees are included in the package, so find out in writing which costs are covered in the package before admission.
Do fees have to be paid all at once?
Usually not. At most colleges fees are paid session-wise (once a year or half-yearly). Be cautious if any agent or college pressures you to pay the entire course fee upfront.
