To prevent child marriage among girls and promote higher education, Kanyashree Prakalpa is one of the West Bengal government’s initiatives that has been awarded at the international level. Honoured with the UN Public Service Award, this scheme has helped lakhs of girls in the state continue their education through financial security.
The Different Levels of Kanyashree Prakalpa and Their Financial Benefits
The Kanyashree Prakalpa scheme is mainly divided into three main levels:

Eligibility Criteria
1. For the K1 Scholarship
- The girl must be regularly studying in Class VIII to XII in a recognised school or madrasah in West Bengal.
- Her age must be between 13 and 18 years.
- The girl must be unmarried.
2. For the K2 One-Time Grant
- She must have completed 18 years of age and must apply before turning 19.
- The girl must be regularly enrolled in a recognised educational institution.
- Remaining unmarried up to the age of 18 is mandatory.
3. For the K3 Scholarship
- A K2 recipient becomes eligible for this benefit if she enrols in a postgraduate (PG) course after her undergraduate (UG) degree with a minimum of 45% marks.
Documents Required
What you will need at the time of application:
- The girl’s own Birth Certificate.
- Self-declaration of unmarried status.
- Enrolment or admission receipt from the current educational institution.
- Copy of the passbook of a single bank account in the girl’s own name.
- Photocopies of the Aadhaar card and digital ration card.
- Passport-size colour photograph.
How to Apply
- The Kanyashree application process is usually completed directly through the girl’s own school, madrasah or college.
- Collect the prescribed K1 or K2 form from the school authorities and fill it in with correct information.
- Attach the necessary documents and submit to the head teacher or the concerned nodal teacher.
- After the school authorities upload the data to the portal online, the girl is given an Applicant ID / Acknowledgement Slip.
Checking Kanyashree Status Online (Track Application)
How to view the current state of your application online:
- Go to the official website wbkanyashree.gov.in.
- Select the ‘Track Application’ option from the menu.
- Enter your Year, District, Block/Municipality, School Name and Applicant ID.
- On searching, you will see at which level the application is (School Level, BDO/SDO Level, District Level or Bank Payment Disbursed).
