To provide financial security to West Bengal’s farmers and meet the cost of cultivation, the Agriculture Department of the Government of West Bengal runs the Krishak Bandhu (New) Scheme.
Through this scheme, cultivators receive a direct financial grant of up to Rs 10,000 a year based on the size of their landholding. In addition, if a farmer dies unexpectedly, the family receives a one-time death benefit of Rs 2 lakh.
Key Benefits of the Krishak Bandhu Scheme
1. Assured Financial Assistance
- With 1 acre or more of land: a total of Rs 10,000 per year (in two equal instalments of Rs 5,000 each, in the kharif and rabi seasons).
- Less than 1 acre or small cultivators: a minimum of Rs 4,000 in proportion to the land (in two instalments of Rs 2,000 each).
- Sharecroppers and bargadars: registered bargadars are also eligible for an equivalent financial grant.
2. Krishak Bandhu Death Benefit
- If a registered farmer between 18 and 60 years of age dies naturally or accidentally, his/her family or nominee receives a one-time compensation of Rs 2,00,000 (two lakh rupees).
Eligibility and Documents Required for Application
Eligibility:
- The applicant must be a permanent resident of West Bengal and a lawful landowner/bargadar.
- A land deed (porcha) or ROR record in the applicant’s own name must exist.
Required documents:
- Recent land deed (porcha) or khatiyan record (ROR).
- The applicant’s Voter ID card (EPIC) (mandatory).
- Photocopy of the Aadhaar card.
- Photocopy of the first page of the bank passbook (IFSC code and account number must be clearly visible).
- Active mobile number.
- Passport-size photograph.
How to Make a New Application
- Collect the Krishak Bandhu application form from the nearest Block Agricultural Officer’s office (ADA Office) or a ‘Duare Sarkar’ camp.
- Fill in the form with your personal details, land J.L number, khatiyan and plot numbers, and bank details.
- Attach self-attested copies of all documents and submit.
- After submission, the officer will give you a registration number or receipt.
Checking the Krishak Bandhu Status with Your Voter Card Number
Whether the money has come into your account, or whether the application has been approved, can be checked online very easily:
- Go to the official website krishakbandhu.wb.gov.in.
- On the homepage, click the ‘Registered Farmer Information’ (Search Voter ID) option.
- Select your district or division from the dropdown and type your Voter Card No.
- Tick the ‘I am not a robot’ captcha and press the ‘Search’ button.
- Instantly you will see your KB ID, cultivable land area, current status (Approved / Data Entered) and the last transaction history (Transaction Success).
