Why Shramashree scheme applications get rejected — the mandatory Karmasathi portal pre-registration, common form errors, OTP/login fixes and the correct step-by-step application process.
Tick off the required papers as you gather them for your application:
The West Bengal government’s Shramashree scheme is for migrant workers who ran into trouble while working in other states and returned home — promising a one-time ₹5,000 as travel assistance and ₹5,000 a month until employment is found. But in the app-driven new application process, one thing is becoming clear: a huge number of applications are being rejected (Reject) — and in most cases the reason is one and the same, which nobody is spelling out.
Before applying directly for assistance in the Shramashree app, you must be registered as a migrant worker on the Karmasathi portal. Applications submitted without this pre-registration are being rejected the most. If you are not registered, first finish the Karmasathi registration through the app’s ‘Register’ route, then apply for Shramashree using that login.
An application can be rejected for several reasons. Find yours in the list below:
| Reason | Why it gets rejected | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| No Karmasathi registration | The migrant worker register is the very basis of Shramashree; verification is impossible without the record | Register on Karmasathi first via the app’s Register, then apply |
| Name/date of birth mismatch | If the spellings differ across Aadhaar, voter card and the app form, the system cannot match them | Fill the form exactly as per the Aadhaar card’s spelling |
| Wrong or someone else’s mobile number | The entire OTP-based process runs on the applicant’s number; giving an agent’s number stalls verification | Register and apply only with your own active number |
| Duplicate / fake applications | Multiple applications by the same person or on the same Aadhaar are all flagged | Keep one correct application; verify any application made via an agent |
| Incomplete documents / address | Missing proof of work in the other state or an unclear home address stalls verification | Give a clear West Bengal address on the ration/voter card |
Step 1: Get the Shramashree app or the portal’s latest link from the Labour Department’s official source (wblabour.gov.in). The portal’s address (previously www.shramashree.in was used) changes from time to time — beware of fake apps with the same name on the Play Store; take the link only from the Labour Department’s site.
Step 2: If you are already registered on Karmasathi, press Login and verify the OTP with the registered mobile number/user ID. If not registered, press ‘Register’ and complete the registration first with mobile number + OTP — this is the very step whose omission gets forms rejected.
Step 3: When the main form opens, enter the name exactly as on the Aadhaar card, plus date of birth, home address and bank account details. Leave no field blank.
Step 4: Choose the required assistance option (travel assistance, rehabilitation allowance, etc.), upload the documents and submit the form.
Step 5: After submission, check the application’s status regularly in the app or portal. If it shows ‘Rejected’, read the reason, correct it and apply afresh.
The new app’s servers kept getting stuck under load early on — this is not your fault.
No. Karmasathi is the portal for registering migrant workers; Shramashree is the assistance scheme for those registered workers. So a Shramashree application is not acceptable without Karmasathi registration.
Under the scheme’s rules, the monthly support is meant to continue until the returned worker finds employment — the government is also arranging skill training and employment. Check the Labour Department’s latest notices for the exact duration and conditions.
No, it will only delay it further. Press once and wait; try early morning or at night.
Register afresh and complete the full registration (including OTP verification), then apply for Shramashree. Don’t rely on the old incomplete record.
In the Shramashree app by OTP login with your own number, or on the current web portal given in the Labour Department site’s notices.
🛡️ Caution: Taking advantage of the new scheme, agent rackets saying “we’ll fill the form, get you the money” have become active.
- The application is completely free — don’t give an agent a single rupee.
- Register from your own mobile with your own number; never give your Aadhaar-OTP on an agent’s phone.
- No government official calls asking for OTP, bank PIN or a “processing fee.”
- Use only the Labour Department’s portal (wblabour.gov.in) and the official app.

Applying directly for assistance in the Shramashree app without pre-registering on the Karmasathi portal. The Karmasathi (migrant worker) registration is the very foundation of Shramashree — without this record the application cannot survive verification and gets rejected.
The new app's servers are under heavy load, so OTPs arrive late. Don't press 'Generate OTP' again and again — that cancels the earlier request and causes further delay. Wait 5–10 minutes and try again; trying early in the morning or at night usually helps.
Complete the Karmasathi registration first in the Shramashree app itself using the 'Register' option (with mobile number + OTP), then use that registration to 'Login' and apply for Shramashree assistance. Do not apply directly for assistance without finishing the registration.
Yes. You must fix the reason for rejection (name spelling, address, incomplete documents, etc.) and apply afresh. Comments and local experience show many applicants are being accepted after reapplying with corrections. If the old error isn't fixed before reapplying, it will be rejected again.
Log in to the Shramashree app with OTP using your own mobile number to see the application's current state. The web portal's address changes from time to time, so take the latest link from the Labour Department's site (wblabour.gov.in). If the status shows 'Rejected', read the reason, correct it and reapply.
No. The application is completely free and can be done from your own mobile. Giving an agent your Aadhaar-OTP creates the risk of wrong information or a fake application — such applications are also being rejected. Never give anyone your OTP over the phone, your bank details, or money.
