Udyam Registration Benefits and Loan Subsidy 2026: What You Gain Under Which Scheme?
Which government loans, subsidies and benefits a Udyam registration number unlocks — MUDRA, PMEGP, CGTMSE, interest subvention, tender preference and more, in one complete list.
Udyam registration gives you no money by itself — but this free registration number is the ticket to nearly every central and state MSME loan and subsidy scheme. Without the number, most applications do not move forward; with it, approval also becomes easier. Below are the details of what you gain under which scheme.
At a glance: benefits unlocked by the Udyam number
| Benefit | What you get |
|---|---|
| MUDRA loan | ₹50,000–₹20 lakh without a guarantor |
| PMEGP | 15–35% government subsidy (margin money) |
| CGTMSE guarantee | Government assurance for collateral-free loans without a guarantor |
| Interest subvention | Part of the interest refunded on overdrafts/loans |
| Government tenders | EMD exemption and MSME-reserved items |
| Payment protection | If a buyer delays beyond 45 days, payment with interest becomes mandatory |
| Others | 50% patent fee rebate, NSIC/certification fee reimbursement |
1. MUDRA loan
Shishu (up to ₹50,000), Kishore (₹50,000–₹5 lakh) and Tarun (₹5–10 lakh) — three tiers of guarantor-free working capital or machinery loans. Providing the Udyam number speeds up bank processing. Apply at your own bank or on the jansamarth.in portal. Details: MUDRA loan guide.
2. PMEGP — the big subsidy opportunity
A 15–35% government subsidy on project cost for employment-oriented new units (depending on urban/rural and general/special category), with the rest as bank loan and own contribution. The cheapest funding for actually starting a business, because the subsidy portion need not be repaid. Apply on the www.kviconline.gov.in portal. Guide: PMEGP scheme.
3. CGTMSE — government assurance for guarantor-free loans
Loans to Udyam-registered micro and small units get CGTMSE guarantee cover, so banks agree to lend without asking for collateral. A guarantee fee applies at a low rate alongside the loan; recent reforms have raised the cover limit. Ask whether the bank’s loan proposal says ‘under CGTMSE’.
4. Interest subvention
Registered MSMEs get an interest subsidy of up to 2% on overdraft/working capital under central schemes (eligibility and limits vary by scheme). Claims are made through the bank if GST returns and bank statements are regular. State schemes (such as Karma Sathi) may carry separate subsidies.
5. Tenders and payment protection
- On GeM and government tenders, MSMEs get EMD exemption, and certain items are reserved only for local suppliers
- MSME time law (MSMED Act): if a registered supplier’s dues are held beyond 45 days, the buyer must pay monthly compound interest — complaints can be filed on the MSME Samadhaan portal
6. State schemes
In West Bengal, the Udyam number or business registration is also asked for the Karma Sathi scheme, Bhabishyat Card and self-help group loans. Guides: Karma Sathi scheme, Bhabishyat Card.

❓ Frequently asked questions
Does Udyam registration alone get you a loan?
No. The Udyam number only creates eligibility — for a loan you must apply separately at a bank or on the scheme's portal. The bank decides based on business viability, bank statements and CIBIL.
Does the Udyam number directly fetch a subsidy?
Not directly. Subsidies differ by scheme — for instance, MUDRA loans carry no subsidy, but PMEGP offers a margin money subsidy of up to 15–35%, and MSMEs become eligible for interest subvention on overdrafts.
Does Udyam registration expire?
The registration is for life, but 'Update/Confirm' on the portal every year is mandatory. If updates lapse for a full year, the registration becomes 'return pending' and loses scheme eligibility.
