Introduction

To avoid confusion on election day, find out in advance which booth you will vote at. Every voter’s name is listed under a specific polling booth and a part number, and that information can be retrieved online in a minute.

Finding Your Booth by EPIC Number

Entering your EPIC number under ‘Search in Electoral Roll’ on voters.eci.gov.in or the Voter Helpline app instantly brings up:

  • The booth’s name and address (school / panchayat building / community hall)
  • The part number of the roll and your serial number
  • The version of the roll (which revision’s list your name appears in)

If you don’t have the EPIC number at hand, search using name + father’s name + age + district.

Voting Day Checklist

  1. Your name is on the voter list — check once the night before.
  2. A valid ID — any one of the EPIC card, Aadhaar, passport, driving licence, etc.
  3. The booth’s correct address — even without the slip, remember the details from the portal.
  4. Mobile phones and other prohibited items must be deposited outside the booth — arrive with time to spare.

The BLO — a Voter’s First Point of Contact

Booth change, missing name, information correction — for any problem, first speak to your part’s BLO. The CEO portal publishes each part’s BLO name and contact details, and guidance is also available on the 1950 voter helpline.

🪜 Step-by-step guide

  1. Open voters.eci.gov.in or the Voter Helpline App

Go to the 'Search in Electoral Roll' option — this is where your booth details will match. The app has the same 'Search' tool.

  2. Search by EPIC Number

Search by entering your voter card (EPIC) number and selecting the state. If you don't have the number at hand, you can also search by name, father's name, age and district.

  3. Note the Part Number

The result will show your booth's name and address, the part number of the roll and your serial number — this is exactly what comes in handy on voting day.

  4. Contact the BLO If Needed

If there is an issue with a booth change or your name, approach the BLO of the relevant part — part-wise BLO lists are available on the CEO portal, and information can be obtained on the 1950 helpline.

❓ Frequently asked questions

Is the voter slip (Booth Slip) mandatory on voting day?

No. The slip helps avoid disputes but is not mandatory — you can vote as long as your name is on the voter list and you carry a valid ID (EPIC/Aadhaar, etc.).

My booth has changed but I went to the old booth — what should I do?

Verify the new booth's address on the portal and go there. Staff at the old booth can also tell you the new booth's address, but your vote will only be counted at the booth listed in the roll.

Who is a BLO and what problems should you take to them?

A BLO (Booth Level Officer) is the official responsible for the voter list of your part — usually a local schoolteacher or panchayat worker. For any problem — a missing name, document verification, a booth change — the BLO is the first point of contact.
