Kanyashree Prakalpa 2026: K1/K2 Eligibility, Benefits, Application & Status Check
Kanyashree Prakalpa — annual ₹1,000 (K1) for girls aged 13–18 and a one-time ₹25,000 (K2) at 18–19. Eligibility, income limit, where to get the form, status check and what to do if payment is stuck.
Kanyashree Prakalpa is the state government’s best-known girl-child protection scheme — its core aim is keeping girls in school until the minimum age of marriage (18). It is not a merit scholarship; it is conditional financial support — but its role in the cost of education is undeniable. The scheme was developed with UNICEF’s support and is a United Nations award winner.

Document Checklist
- Birth certificate or a school administrative document with date of birth
- Aadhaar card (the girl’s own)
- Proof of current education/training (certificate from school/college/training centre)
- Self-declaration of being unmarried
- Income certificate (from BDO/SDO/municipality — needed unless exempt from the income condition)
- The girl’s own bank account passbook — in Kanyashree an account is mandatory and money comes only to her own account
Application Steps
There is no way to apply online yourself under Kanyashree — everything happens through the institution:
- Collect the form: Get the Kanyashree form from the head of your school/college/training centre (a sample form can be viewed on wbkanyashree.gov.in).
- Fill and submit: Submit it at the institution with the documents.
- Online entry: The institution uploads and verifies the student’s details on the portal.
- Approval: After district/state-level approval, the money goes to the bank via DBT.
- Prepare for K2: Before turning 18, get your own bank account, Aadhaar and papers in order — the K2 window is only one year (18–19).
Status Check and What to Do If Delayed
- First ask the institution — whether it has been uploaded/verified; most delays happen here.
- If uploaded, contact the BDO office/district social welfare section (SC & BCW section) or the block Kanyashree nodal officer with your application ID.
- Check the bank too: DBT fails if the account is inactive or the Aadhaar-bank link is missing — update KYC at the bank.
- To lodge a complaint, use the district Kanyashree nodal officer or the state portal’s grievance channel.
Kanyashree + Scholarships: Can They Run Together?
Yes. Kanyashree is a protection scheme outside anti-scholarship clauses — meaning Kanyashree money can be received together with SVMCM or OASIS scholarships. However, it cannot be claimed as directly equivalent to any other government scholarship.

❓ Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between Kanyashree K1 and K2?
K1 is the annual ₹1,000 scholarship for unmarried girls aged 13–18; K2 is a one-time ₹25,000 grant at age 18–19, before marriage. Both come via DBT into the bank.
Where do I apply for Kanyashree?
At the school/college itself. Get the form from the head of the institution and submit it with the required documents — the institution uploads the details to the portal online. You don't need to apply separately on any portal.
When does the Kanyashree money arrive?
It comes via DBT after the institution uploads and district-level approval happens — usually taking a few weeks to a few months. If delayed, first ask the institution, then the BDO/district social welfare section.
Does the income limit apply to everyone?
Annual family income must be below ₹1,20,000 — but this condition does not apply to orphan girls, girls with disabilities, and girls in shelters for protection.
What are the conditions for receiving K2?
You must apply between 18 and 19 years of age and remain unmarried during this period — this incentivises continuing education/training. Kanyashree benefits end once K2 is received.
