West Bengal Government Scholarships 2026: Complete List & Which One Fits You
All West Bengal government scholarships in one place — SVMCM, OASIS, Aikyashree, Kanyashree, Sikshashree, Student Credit Card — who should apply where, benefit amounts and official portals.
Every year lakhs of West Bengal students apply for government scholarships — but there is one biggest problem: deciding who should apply to which scheme. For one student SVMCM may be the right fit, for another OASIS’s post-matric, and for someone else Aikyashree. This guide presents the state’s main government scholarships and student support schemes at a glance — along with links to each one’s detailed guide.
At a glance: West Bengal’s main scholarship schemes
| Scheme | Who it is for | Benefit (approx.) | Portal |
|---|---|---|---|
| SVMCM (Swami Vivekananda) | Class 11 to PhD, general students | ₹1,000–8,000/month | svmcm.wb.gov.in |
| OASIS | SC/ST/OBC (A/B) students | Pre- and post-matric scholarships | oasis.gov.in |
| Aikyashree | Minority students | ₹10,000–33,000/year | wbmdfcscholarship.in |
| Kanyashree (K1/K2) | Unmarried girl students, 13–19 years | ₹1,000/year + ₹25,000 one-time | wbkanyashree.gov.in |
| Sikshashree | SC/ST students, Classes 5–8 | Annual cash support | Through school |
| Taruner Swapna | Class 11 students | ₹10,000 (discontinuation announced in 2026) | Through school |
| Student Credit Card | Higher education loan | Interest-free loan up to ₹10 lakh | wbscc.wb.gov.in |
Which scholarship is for you, by class
Classes 5–8: Sikshashree for SC/ST students — its application goes through the school itself; no separate portal needed.
Classes 9–10: OASIS pre-matric scholarship for SC/ST/OBC students, and Aikyashree’s pre-matric component for minority students. Kanyashree K1 runs separately for girl students.
Classes 11–12: The biggest scheme is SVMCM — if you scored 60% (50% for reserved categories) and your annual family income is below ₹2.5 lakh, you are eligible. SC/ST/OBC students can apply under OASIS post-matric and minority students under Aikyashree — but not both alongside SVMCM.
Undergraduate and beyond: SVMCM runs up to undergraduate/postgraduate/PhD. Professional courses (engineering, medical) get higher amounts. If the running costs are steep, the Student Credit Card gives an interest-free loan up to ₹10 lakh — it is not a substitute for a scholarship but a complement.
5 preparations before applying
- Fix the Aadhaar–bank link. All scholarships arrive by DBT; without KYC the money gets stuck.
- The student’s own bank account is essential — not the father’s or mother’s account.
- Scan documents in advance: marksheets, income certificate, residence/caste certificate (if applicable), bank passbook, passport-size photograph.
- Don’t forget renewal. A scholarship doesn’t end once granted — it must be renewed on time every year.
- Don’t pay an agent to apply. Applying is free on all portals. If someone says “I’ll fill the form, there’s a charge”, it is a fraud.
Warning: fake scholarship portals
Clicking on advertisements of the “West Bengal scholarship 2026 last date approaching” kind often lands you on fake sites. Remember — government portals always sit on a .gov.in domain or a subdomain of .gov.in (such as wbmdfcscholarship.gov.in). If a .com, .org or .in address asks for money for a “government scholarship form”, it is not a government site.

❓ Frequently asked questions
Which is the most popular government scholarship in West Bengal?
For higher secondary students and beyond, the most popular is the [Swami Vivekananda Merit Cum Means (SVMCM) scholarship](/en/education/svmcm-scholarship/). SC/ST/OBC students have the pre-matric and post-matric scholarships on the [OASIS portal](/en/education/oasis-scholarship/), and minority students have Aikyashree.
Can a student hold more than one scholarship at a time?
No. Only one central or state government scholarship can be held at a time. However, other support apart from scholarships — such as financial protection schemes like Kanyashree or the Student Credit Card loan — can go along with a scholarship.
In which month do scholarship applications start?
Fresh applications for most scholarships open between July and October and close by November–December. Renewal windows usually open a bit earlier. Keep checking the portal notices regularly.
Which schemes are there specifically for girl students?
[Kanyashree Prakalpa](/en/education/kanyashree-prakalpa/) — ₹1,000 a year (K1) for unmarried girls aged 13–18, and a one-time ₹25,000 (K2) at 18–19 if unmarried. It is not a scholarship but a financial protection scheme, though it is a big help with study costs.
Where does the scholarship money arrive, and how do I check the status?
All the major scholarships now use DBT — money goes straight into the student's own bank account. Status can be checked on the relevant portal — such as SVMCM's track option, or OASIS's "Track Application". Getting the account's KYC (Aadhaar-bank link) sorted in advance is essential.
