OASIS (Online Application for Scholarship In Studies) — oasis.gov.in — is the one-stop portal for scholarships for students of the Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Other Backward Classes of West Bengal. Applications at every level, from a Class 9 student to a PhD researcher, go through this single portal.

Which scheme, for whom

Scheme Classes Who it is for Income limit
Pre-matric Classes 9–10 SC/ST/OBC (A/B) SC/ST ₹2.5 lakh; OBC ₹1.5 lakh
Post-matric Class 11–Postgraduate/PhD SC/ST/OBC (A/B) SC/ST ₹2.5 lakh; OBC ₹1.5 lakh

Under both schemes, the student must be studying regularly at a recognised institution in West Bengal, and the family income must be within the annual income limit. For post-matric, simply having passed the previous examination is enough — there is no fixed percentage requirement at most levels (special conditions may apply in the notification).

How much money do you get

  • Pre-matric: monthly scholarship + book/grant allowance (day scholars and hostel residents get different amounts).
  • Post-matric: class/course-based annual amounts — different for general courses and professional/technical courses; hostel residents get a recharge/mess allowance on top.
  • Payment is always by DBT — into the student’s own bank account.

Amounts are updated year to year — the portal’s notification PDF is the final source when you fill in the form.

Documents checklist

  • Caste/Tribe certificate (SC/ST certificate or OBC-A/OBC-B certificate) — in the student’s own name
  • Income certificate (of the guardian, from BDO/SDO/municipality)
  • Aadhaar card
  • Marksheet/pass certificate of the last examination
  • Proof of admission to the current course
  • The student’s own bank passbook (number + IFSC visible)
  • Passport-size photograph

Step-by-step application

  1. Go to the portal: oasis.gov.in → “Student’s Registration”.
  2. Choose the scheme: pick the correct scheme based on your class/course and reserved category (SC/ST/OBC-A/OBC-B).
  3. Fill in the form: personal details, caste certificate number and issue date, institution details, bank account and IFSC.
  4. Upload documents: upload scanned documents in the prescribed sizes.
  5. Final submit and print: save the application number — you need this very number to track.
  6. Monitor verification: the institution and the District Nodal Officer (DNA) verify step by step — check “Track Application” regularly.
  7. DBT: after approval, the money goes to the bank; a faulty KYC/Aadhaar-bank link will hold it up.

Track Application and common problems

  • Status shows “Rejected”: usually caused by mismatches in the caste/income certificate details or unclear photo/documents. Once the reason appears on the status page, send the correction and contact the Nodal Officer.
  • The institution isn’t verifying: after submitting, inform the school/college’s Nodal Officer directly.
  • Do not file a second application on a new account — use the old application number to correct/track.

Renewal

Each academic year, the renewal form opens in a separate window. Renew using your old application number/login — if you register anew, two applications get stuck in two places. Promotion marksheets and an updated income certificate may be required.

❓ Frequently asked questions

Who can apply for the OASIS scholarship?

SC, ST and OBC (Class A and B) students of West Bengal — pre-matric for Classes 9–10, and post-matric from Class 11 up to postgraduate/doctoral level.

What is the income limit under OASIS?

For pre-matric and post-matric, the annual family income limit is ₹2.5 lakh for SC/ST students and ₹1.5 lakh for OBC students. An income certificate is mandatory.

How much money do you get under OASIS?

It varies by class and course — small monthly amounts under pre-matric, class/course-based annual amounts under post-matric, with higher amounts for hostel residents. Check the exact list in the portal's notification at the time of applying.

Can SVMCM be taken along with OASIS?

No. You cannot hold two state/central scholarships at the same time. SC/ST/OBC students can choose OASIS over SVMCM — compare which one pays more and decide.

How do I check my application status?

On oasis.gov.in, use "Track Application" with your application number/date of birth — the status changes once the District Nodal Officer verifies it, and after approval the money arrives via DBT in your bank account.
