In the red-earth district of Mukutmanipur–Bishnupur, summer has produced some of the state's highest readings (past 45°C), and its westerly position makes winter nights colder than the southern-Bengal average. The sal-forest scenery of Shalboni is at its finest in the rains.

Winter (November–February) is best — cool breezes along the Kangsabati and clear skies.
