A highly popular initiative under the West Bengal government’s Labour Department is the Yuvasree Scheme, previously known as the ‘Yuva Utsaha Prakalpa’ (Youth Enthusiasm Scheme).

The scheme’s core aim is to provide ₹1,500 (one thousand five hundred rupees) a month in financial support to the state’s registered unemployed youth for job preparation and vocational training.


Key Features of the Yuvasree Scheme

  • Monthly financial grant: ₹1,500 per month is sent directly to the bank account.
  • Path to self-reliance: Beneficiaries can spend this money on books, competitive exam fees or technical training course fees.
  • One per family: Only one job-seeker per family can receive this scheme’s benefit.

Eligibility Criteria

  1. The applicant must be a permanent resident of West Bengal.
  2. Age must be between 18 and 45 years.
  3. Educational qualification: must have at least passed Madhyamik or an equivalent examination.
  4. The applicant must be registered as a job-seeker on the West Bengal government’s Employment Bank portal.
  5. The applicant must not be employed in any government or private organisation, and must not be a beneficiary/loan recipient (of other schemes).

Documents Required

  1. Marksheet and admit card of Madhyamik pass or the highest educational qualification.
  2. Age proof (Madhyamik Admit / Birth Certificate).
  3. Residence proof (Ration Card / Voter Card / Aadhaar Card).
  4. An active bank passbook in the applicant’s own name.
  5. Caste certificate (if SC/ST/OBC category).
  6. Passport-size photographs and scanned signature.

The Complete Application Process (Step-by-Step)

Step 1: Enrol on Employment Bank

  1. Go to the official portal employmentbankwb.gov.in.
  2. Click the ‘New Enrollment Job Seeker’ option and accept the terms and conditions.
  3. Fill in the form with your name, address, educational qualification and contact details.
  4. After submitting the form, a Temporary Enrolment Number will be generated.

Step 2: Verification at the Employment Exchange Office

  • Within 60 days of registration, visit the nearby Sub-divisional Employment Exchange, show the original documents and complete the verification. Your user ID and password will be activated there.

Step 3: Yuvasree Waiting List and Allowance Approval

  • As per government notification, the Yuvasree scheme’s list (Waiting List) is published from among candidates waiting on the Employment Bank. If your name appears, Annexure-I and Annexure-II must be submitted within the stipulated time.

Yuvasree Status Check and Annexure III Submission

To keep the allowance running, submitting Annexure-III (self declaration) on the portal every 6 months is mandatory:

  1. Go to employmentbankwb.gov.in and click the ‘View Status for Yuvasree’ option.
  2. Enter your Job Seeker Enrolment ID and the security code.
  3. You can find out whether your name has been included in the Yuvasree list and the allowance status.
