Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
What should I do if I forget my e-District portal password?
Use the 'Forgot Password' option on the login page and enter your registered mobile number or email — the password can be reset with an OTP.
Where can I go if I can't apply online?
Visit your local Bangla Sahayata Kendra (BSK) and have any e-District service done at the prescribed fee — you can later check the status online using the application number issued there too.
My e-District application has been 'Under Process' for a long time — what should I do?
Follow up at the concerned BDO / municipality / SDO office with your application number — it is usually held up due to a document deficiency or pending verification. The process moves forward once the deficiency is resolved.
In detail
Introduction
e-District West Bengal (edistrict.wb.gov.in) is the state administration’s single online window — dozens of citizen services, including birth-death certificates, income certificates, residence certificates and ration card applications, can be completed from home. Nearly all certificate applications, from rural BDO offices to urban municipalities, go through this portal.
Services Available on the Portal
- Certificates: Income certificate, residence certificate, caste certificate applications (verification), single widow/unmarried certificate, etc.
- Ration card: Submission of new applications, corrections and category change applications.
- Civic records: Corrections and certificates relating to birth and death registration.
- Status and download: Track any application and download approved documents.
Register Once, Use Again and Again
With a single Citizen account, applications for multiple family services can be made from the same login. Completing Aadhaar e-KYC auto-fills many details (name, date of birth, address), reducing the chance of errors.
Bangla Sahayata Kendra (BSK)
If you find it difficult to do it online yourself, visit the Bangla Sahayata Kendra at every block and municipality and get the same portal’s services done there. Keep one distinction in mind: the BSK delivers the service, while the concerned administrative office grants the approval — the fee is government-fixed in both cases.
